J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr., Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Gallagher has spent his entire career with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in a variety of management positions, starting as a Production Account Executive in 1974, then serving as Vice President of Operations from 1985 to 1990, as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1990 to 1995, and as President and Chief Executive Officer since 1995. From 2011 to 2019, Mr. Gallagher served on the board of directors of InnerWorkings, Inc., a global, publicly traded provider of managed print, packaging and promotional solutions, where he was appointed to its compensation and nominating/governance committees.

Sherry S. Barrat, Retired Vice Chairman of Northern Trust Corporation

Ms. Barrat retired in 2012 as Vice Chairman of Northern Trust Corporation, a global financial holding company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. She assumed the role of Vice Chairman in March 2011. From 2006 to 2011, Ms. Barrat served as Global President of Northern Trust’s personal financial services business, which provides asset management, fiduciary, estate and financial planning, and private banking services to individuals and families around the world. During her 22-year career at Northern Trust, Ms. Barrat served in various other leadership roles and as a member of the Northern Trust Management Committee. Since 1998, Ms. Barrat has served as a director of NextEra Energy, Inc., one of the largest publicly traded electric power companies in the United States, where she serves as lead director and on the compensation and governance & nominating committees. Since 2013, Ms. Barrat has also served as an independent trustee or director of certain Prudential Insurance mutual funds, where she serves as vice chair of the investment review committee and a member of the governance & nominating and compliance committees.

William L. Bax, Former Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Chicago office

Mr. Bax was Managing Partner of the Chicago office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), an international accounting, auditing and consulting firm, from 1997 until his retirement in 2003, and was a partner in the firm for 26 years. Mr. Bax previously served as a director of Sears, Roebuck & Co., a publicly traded retail company, from 2003 to 2005; Andrew Corporation, a publicly traded communications products company, from 2006 to 2007; and mutual fund companies Northern Funds/Northern Institutional Funds, from 2006 to 2018.

Teresa H. Clarke, Chair & CEO, Africa.com

Since 2010, Ms. Clarke has served as Chair and CEO of Africa.com LLC, a holding company with various digital media assets showcasing Africa-related content. Prior to 2010, Ms. Clarke served in various leadership roles at Goldman Sachs & Co., a publicly traded investment banking and securities firm. During her tenure of over twelve years at Goldman Sachs, she led corporate finance and merger & acquisition transactions for corporate clients in the industrials and real estate sectors. From 2016 to 2020, Ms. Clarke served as a director of Change Financial Limited, a publicly traded fintech company (Australian Stock Exchange), where she served as Board Chair and as a member of the Audit Committee. From 2016 to 2020, she also served as a director of Cim Group Ltd, a publicly traded financial services company (Mauritius Stock Exchange), where she served as a member of the corporate governance committee. Since 2021, Ms. Clarke has served as a director and audit committee member of American Tower Corporation, a publicly traded global real estate investment trust that owns, operates and develops multitenant communications real estate.

D. John Coldman, Former Chairman of The Benfield Group

Mr. Coldman began his career at WT Greig, a reinsurance broker. In 1988, he became Managing Director and in 1996 was appointed Chairman of The Benfield Group, the world’s leading independent reinsurance and risk intermediary, until its acquisition by Aon Corporation in 2008. From 2001 to 2006, Mr. Coldman served as Deputy Chairman and a Member of Council of Lloyd’s of London. He is also a past Chairman of Brit PLC, a publicly traded global specialty insurer and reinsurer, from 1996 to 2000, and Omega Insurance Holdings Limited, a publicly traded insurance and reinsurance group, from 2010 to 2012. Mr. Coldman served as the non-executive Chairman of Roodlane Medical Ltd., a privately held healthcare services provider, from 2007 to 2011. A U.K. citizen, Mr. Coldman was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2017, for “services to business, young people, and charity.”

David S. Johnson, Independent Lead Director, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Former Chief Executive Officer of North America, Aryzta AG

Mr. Johnson served as Chief Executive Officer of North America for Aryzta AG, a publicly traded global food business, from 2018 to 2020, and as Non-Executive Chairman from January 2020 to February 2021. From 2009 to 2017, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Americas for Barry Callebaut AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of cocoa and chocolate products, where he also served on the global executive committee. Mr. Johnson served as President and Chief Executive Officer, and as a member of the board, of Michael Foods, Inc., a food processor and distributor, from 2008 to 2009, and as Michael Foods’ President and Chief Operating Officer from 2007 to 2008. From 1986 to 2006, Mr. Johnson served in a variety of senior management roles at Kraft Foods Global, Inc., a global food and beverage company, most recently as President of Kraft Foods North America, and as a member of Kraft Foods’ Management Committee. Prior to that, he held senior positions in marketing, strategy, operations, procurement and general management at Kraft Foods.

Christopher C. Miskel, President and Chief Executive Officer, Versiti, Inc.

Since 2017, Mr. Miskel has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Versiti, Inc., one of the largest independent blood products supply companies in the United States. From 2013 to 2017, Mr. Miskel served in senior management roles at Baxter International Inc., a publicly traded healthcare company, Baxalta Incorporated, which spun off from Baxter in July 2015, and Shire plc, which acquired Baxalta in June 2016. During this period, Mr. Miskel served as Vice President, U.S. BioScience National Accounts from 2013 to 2014, as Vice President, Plasma Strategy and New Product Development from 2014 to 2015, and as Head – Global Immunology from 2015 to 2017. Prior to 2013, he served in roles of increasing responsibility at Eli Lilly and Company, a publicly traded healthcare company.

Ralph J. Nicoletti, Former Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, The AZEK Company

Mr. Nicoletti served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The AZEK Company, Inc., a publicly traded building products company, from January 2019 to August 2021. Prior to joining AZEK, Mr. Nicoletti served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Newell Brands, Inc., a publicly traded consumer goods company, from June 2016 to December 2018; as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Tiffany & Co., a publicly traded jewelry business, from April 2014 to May 2016; and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cigna Corporation, a publicly traded global health services and insurance company, from 2011 to 2013; and of Alberto Culver, Inc., a publicly traded manufacturer and distributor of beauty products, from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, Mr. Nicoletti held a number of financial management positions at Kraft Foods, Inc., finishing his tenure there as Senior Vice President of Corporate Audit. Mr. Nicoletti also serves as a member of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee of Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants.

Norman L. Rosenthal, Ph.D., President, Norman L. Rosenthal & Associates, Inc.

Since 1996, Dr. Rosenthal has been President of Norman L. Rosenthal & Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm that specializes in the property and casualty insurance industry. He is also an affiliated partner of Lindsay Goldberg LLC, a private equity firm. Dr. Rosenthal served on the board and as a member of the compensation committee of National Interstate Corporation, a publicly traded insurance company specializing in commercial transportation exposures, from June 2015 until it was acquired by another insurance company in November 2016. He currently serves on the board of The Plymouth Rock Company, a privately held group of auto and homeowners’ insurance companies, as well as that of its subsidiary, Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey. Prior to 1996, Dr. Rosenthal spent 15 years as a securities analyst in the property and casualty insurance industry at Morgan Stanley & Co., finishing his tenure there as Managing Director. Dr. Rosenthal holds a Ph.D. in Business and Applied Economics, with an insurance focus, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Executive Officers

J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr., Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer

J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr. began his career with Gallagher as an intern in 1972, started working for the company full time in 1974 as a production account executive and was promoted to Vice-President Operations in 1985. He was elected to the Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Board of Directors in 1986. In 1990, he was named President and Chief Operating Officer and, in 1995, was appointed Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors. In 2006 he was appointed Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Gallagher joined the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters in 2003, and serves on the Board of Founding Directors of the International Insurance Foundation. In addition, he serves on the Advisory Council of Boys Hope/Girls Hope and the Board of Advisors for Catholic Charities, and is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the Executives Club of Chicago and the Commercial Club of Chicago.

In 2007, Mr. Gallagher was granted Freedom of the City of London by the city’s Lord Mayor in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Lloyd’s insurance market and for his support of the Gallagher Lifelong Learning scholarships. In 2009, he was honored by the Spencer Educational Foundation (which is affiliated with the Risk and Insurance Management Society) for his ongoing support of the Foundation. And in 2013, he was named Insurance Broking CEO of the Year by Reactions Magazine.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Cornell University.

Walter D. Bay, Corporate Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Walter D. Bay joined Gallagher in 2007. As General Counsel, he manages the global legal team and advises senior management and the company’s Board of Directors on a wide range of issues, including regulatory and legal compliance, securities law, corporate governance, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Bay has more than 20 years of legal and business experience. He began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank. After attending law school, he joined Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP, where he became a partner in the firm’s corporate department. In 2000, he joined GE Capital Services, first as its mergers and acquisitions counsel and then as general counsel for GE Commercial Distribution Finance.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the College of Wooster and a Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the George Washington University National Law Center.

Mark Bloom, Global Chief Information Officer

Mark H. Bloom joined Gallagher in 2022. As Global Chief Information Officer, he is responsible for leading the company’s global information technology and security efforts.

Mr. Bloom has more than 30 years of business and technology experience. He currently serves as a non-executive Board member of Freddie Mac. Before coming to Gallagher, Mr. Bloom served as the Global Chief Technology Officer and a member of the Management Board of Aegon N.V., a multinational life insurance, pensions, and asset management company. Before joining Aegon, Mr. Bloom held various positions at Citigroup, Inc., including Managing Director, Head of Global Consumer Digital and Operations Technology, where he was globally responsible for digital, data, and operations technology solutions and innovations.  Prior to that, Mr. Bloom held various positions at JP Morgan Chase & Company, including Senior Vice President, Chase Home Finance Technology; and he was Senior Vice President, eBusiness Solutions at CACI International.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Bucknell University, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and an MBA in International Business from the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business.

Joel D. Cavaness, Corporate Vice President, President, U.S. Wholesale Brokerage

Joel D. Cavaness joined Gallagher in 1986 as a marketing representative in Gallagher’s St. Louis office, after spending several years as a casualty underwriter for standard and excess/surplus lines carriers. He worked his way up to area vice president by 1990, then relocated to Gallagher’s home office outside Chicago in 1996 to lead International Special Risk Services, Inc. In 1997, he co-founded Risk Placement Services, Inc. (RPS), a subsidiary of Gallagher, and led its growth to become one of the largest U.S. wholesale brokers, managing general agents and program managers. In 2000, he was appointed a corporate vice president of Gallagher.

Mr. Cavaness is very active in the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association (WSIA), having served on its board of directors since 2010. He holds both CPCU and ARM designations.

He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University.

Thomas J. Gallagher, Corporate Vice President, President, Global Retail Property/Casualty Brokerage

Thomas J. Gallagher joined Gallagher in 1980 as a producer after participating in the company’s summer internship program for two years. He was promoted to area president of the Milwaukee office in 1987 and in 1996 was named president of the San Francisco construction office. Tom helped establish Gallagher Construction Services, serving as niche managing director from 1997 to 2002. After working in the field for 15 years, Tom returned to Gallagher's home office outsde Chicago in 2002 to lead the retail brokerage division's Midwest Region. In 2011 he was appointed to lead Gallagher's international brokerage operations, and in 2016 he was named CEO of Gallagher’s global brokerage services division.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and International Relations from the University Southern California.

Patrick M. Gallagher, CEO, Brokerage Services – Americas

Patrick M. Gallagher joined Gallagher in 2000 as a member of Gallagher’s Summer Internship Program. In 2008, after six years of producing and managing a business unit in Chicago, he moved to London to manage Gallagher’s Lloyd’s of London-related wholesale business. By 2010, Patrick was promoted to run the worldwide property & casualty wholesale division. In April 2011, Patrick assumed leadership of the UK retail division of Gallagher International – Gallagher Heath, and helped lead the expansion of Gallagher’s global footprint as a member of the International Executive Committee. He returned to the United States in 2013 as an executive vice president to help run the retail brokerage division’s Midwest Region and was named president of the region in 2016. In 2019, Patrick was appointed Chairman, Canada & Caribbean and CEO of Latin America before fully transitioning into his current role in 2021.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and General Management from the Boston College Carroll School of Management.

Douglas K. Howell, Corporate Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Douglas K. Howell joined Gallagher in 2003 as Chief Financial Officer. He oversees the company’s financial, investment, information technology and administrative functions, and represents Gallagher in dealings with global investment analysts, institutional shareholders and prospective investors. He also leads many operational, quality and productivity initiatives.

Mr. Howell came to Gallagher with more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry, including serving as CFO of both public and private insurance companies. He began his career with the public accounting and consulting firms now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.

Mr. Howell has been recognized multiple times in Institutional Investor magazine as one of America’s Best Insurance sector CFOs by the investment community. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He is additionally a Certified Public Accountant.

Scott R. Hudson, Corporate Vice President, President and Chief Executive Officer, Risk Management Services

Scott R. Hudson joined Gallagher in 2010 as President of its global risk management services operations.

Mr. Hudson came to Gallagher with more than 25 years of experience as a business consultant specializing in the insurance and financial services industries. He began his consulting career with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and later held key leadership positions with Information Consulting Group; McKinsey and Company, Inc.; Renaissance Worldwide, Inc.; and, most recently, as Insurance Practice Director for Bridge Strategy Group.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Iowa State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Vishal Jain, Corporate Vice President, Global Chief Service Officer

Vishal Jain joined Gallagher in 2005 and has since been instrumental in the establishment, ramp up and ongoing management of the Gallagher Service Center, which provides data management, document processing, and quality control support to Gallagher’s operating divisions and ultimately its customers.

In 2014, Mr. Jain was appointed Chief Service Officer. In this role, he leads efforts across Gallagher’s various divisions to further enhance the level of service provided to customers, while also improving operational efficiency and quality.

Prior to working for Gallagher, Vishal spent more than 15 years as a management consultant, primarily with Bridge Strategy Group and McKinsey and Company, Inc. In this capacity he worked with a wide range of Fortune 1000 companies, helping them craft high-level strategies and implement significant operational and organizational change at the ground level.

He holds a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from BITS in India and an MBA from Yale University.

Christopher E. Mead, Corporate Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer

Christopher E. Mead joined Gallagher in 2017. As Chief Marketing Officer, he is responsible for leading the company’s global marketing and communication efforts.

Mr. Mead came to Gallagher from the CME Group, the world’s largest futures exchange. As Managing Director-Marketing, he helped shape CME’s global strategic direction and was responsible for the development of global marketing strategies, planning and implementation activities. In addition, he has held various marketing leadership positions within marketing/advertising agencies serving clients in the sports entertainment, restaurant, retail and healthcare industries.

Mr. Mead holds an undergraduate degree from Keene State College in New Hampshire and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Susan E. Pietrucha, Corporate Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

Susan E. Pietrucha joined Gallagher in 2007. She is responsible for developing a comprehensive human resources and organizational strategy to address key margin improvement initiatives and drive the development of a robust, performance-based culture.

Ms. Pietrucha came to Gallagher with 16 years of human resources experience, most recently as Vice President of Human Resources for General Electric’s Commercial Distribution Finance business. Prior to that she was Vice President of Human Resources for Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, Vice President of Human Resources for GE Capital Auto Financial Services, and Director of Human Resources at Ernst and Young.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. In addition, she is a graduate of GE’s Management Development Program.

William F. Ziebell, Corporate Vice President, President, Employee Benefit Consulting and Brokerage

William F. Ziebell joined Gallagher in 2000, working as a producer and manager for the employee benefits consulting and brokerage operation in the Troy, Michigan office. In 2002, he assumed the role of Assistant Branch Manager for the operation’s Chicago branch and was named Branch Manager in 2003. He managed the Midwest Region from 2004 to 2016, and in 2016 was promoted to his current role.

Mr. Ziebell began his career with Ernst & Young as a CPA, and has more than 25 years of sales and leadership experience. Throughout his career, he has led the way in centralizing and enhancing critical client services such as financial reporting and underwriting, wellness and employee communications.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Northern Illinois University, and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Business Policy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
